mastodon admin technical question

Does anyone else feel like it’s a design error for the /api/v1/instance/peers list served by the mastodon API to still populate suspended instances on the list?? I can’t tell why that decision would be made unless you truly don’t understand moderation needs...

@s0 I think giving a way for a suspended instance to know for sure they’re suspended instead of silently dropping their stuff would trigger more retribution

mastodon admin technical question

@bonzoesc I can see that. But just as it’s optional to display the list of suspended instances on the /about/more page, couldn’t that be optional? Or just rolled into the one setting?

mastodon admin technical question

@s0 would making that optional break existing API users?

@s0

"unless you truly don’t understand moderation needs" sounds like reliable assertion.

Snark aside, I suppose it's a broad idea of domains that the instance is aware of. Which would include those that the pinged instance has suspended.

I just checked, even (not suspended) instances I knew about that shutdown months ago are still listed.
There is indeed some design error or cache flushing is missing.
